High School Worshops and Community Outreach
We offer a 60-90 minute workshop on Professional Acting Technique that can help educate young students about the kind of training professional performing artists need and are committed to over the course of their lives in the theater.
The workshops are comprised of two parts, each 60-90 minutes long, suggested to be spaced between two days and a week apart. The first session begins with a short lecture on The Actors’ Five Questions, a text based technique used to uncover text, the writer’s intention, and the creation of behavior onstage taught at Yale Drama School. This is followed by a demonstration of work by two Visionbox Ensemble Actors. Following the presentation of scene work, Artistic Director Jennifer McCray Rincón will engage students in an interactive question and answer period followed by direction of the scene. The second session allows students to present previously prepared scene or monologue work to be discussed and directed in front of the class by Ms. Rincón.
Typically workshops can focus either on Contemporary and Classical Realism or Shakespeare. The Shakespeare workshop will focus on scansion, style, and acting poetry. We can tailor workshops outside of these genres to best suit your students.
We have previously worked with East High School, West High School, George Washington High School, Kent Denver School, Colorado Academy, DSST Cole Middle School, The Ricks Center, Cherokee Trail High School, Cherry Creek High School, Stanley British Primary School, Kepner Middle School, Grandview High School, and the 50th Annual Colorado Thespian Convention.
Please email info@visionbox.org to schedule a workshop in your school.
