The Director's Lab

DATE: January 30 - April 2nd

TIME: SATURDAYS, 1-4pm (10 classes, 30 class hours + rehearsals)

TUITION: $500

As part of our ongoing committment to raising the level of professional theatre in Denver, DADA@Visionbox has recognized the need for new directors in our theatre community, as well as on-going training and support for directors already working professionally.

This class is designed for directors of all levels. Each week, we will select a script to be read and analyzed using On Directing by Harold Clurman as our text book. As the foundation for directing preparation, each week we will discuss the spine of the play, the world of the play, the playwright's life and work, and the characters' super objectives. Each director will stage one scene per week which will be discussed and critiqued by the class and instructor. Members of the Visionbox Ensemble and students from our acting classes will be utilized for rehearsal and class presentations. Finally, as the course evolves, directors will have the opportunity to direct a project of their own choosing for performance and discussion at Visionbox Studio's venue, Skylite Station.

Jennifer McCray Rincon is the instructor for this class sequence. For many years at the beginning of her career, she assisted multiple New York City directors including Nikos Psacharopoulos and Tony award-winning director Gerald Gutierrez. She is a graduate of the Yale School of Drama Directing program and brings extensive training, teaching experience and years of professional production to her class work.
