DROP-IN SKILLS CLASSES

In addition to our 5-week sequences, we offer Drop-In Classes focusing on specific skills, including Audition Technique, Movement, Voice & Speech, and Music. These classes familiarize actors with with specific areas of study in shorter, more intensive time frames. They also refine acting technique and diversify the actor's performance related skills.

Audition Acting

DATES: SATURDAYS

TIME:   9am-12pm

TUITION:  5-Class Pack - $250, Single Class - $75 (must call to schedule)

This class is meant to prepare students and professionals for auditions in performing arts high schools, colleges, graduate schools, conservatories, repertory companies and local theatre and film projects. Actors will focus on how to apply the actor's 5 questions and specific acting technique to monologue work. In particular, actors will be asked to move away from product oriented approach to auditions, in favor of a deeper, more authentic connection to character and objective in their audition material. Jennifer McCray (Founding Artistic Director) is the instructor for this class and has auditioned thousands of actors for admission to NYC productions, The Acting Company, the National Theatre Conservatory, and Visionbox Studio. Ms. Rincon also directed 18 years of Acting Showcases in Los Angeles and New York for the National Theatre Conservatory.

All students should prepare a minimum of two (2) monologues. One (1) Classical (preferrable Shakespearean Verse) and One (1) Contemporary monologue, not to exceed 3 minutes of running time. A song is optional.

Movement Improv

DATES: WEDNESDAYS, TBD

TIME:   6pm-8pm  (6 Classes, 12 Class Hours)

TUITION:  Full Sequence - $200, Single Class - $60 (must call to schedule)

These classes expand an actor's movement vocabulary through a series of guided studies and exercises focusing on pure action and direct energy, as well as listening—to one’s self and one’s environment. Unexpected movement impulses are celebrated as the student learns to follow them and be guided by them. Ensemble is also cultivated—through duets and trios and well as group collaborations. Making intellectual sense, planning your movements before you get to them, and being ‘right’ are not celebrated. Previous exposure to SRT (Skinner Releasing Technique) will be helpful, but not required, and SRT studies will be included in the classes. Be prepared to move in barefoot at the first class.

This class is taught by our Director of Movement, Bob Davidson, former head of movement at the National Theatre Conservatory. Mr. Davidson is a world-class choreographer, instructor and trapeze artist. He is an expert on Skinner Releasing and movement for the actor.
